Hydrogen Highways" reducing fossil fuel dependence and promoting clean long - haul transport has been launched by India it's first for large-scale green hydrogen truck trials with a Rs 500 crore budget, marking a significant steps . The two-year trials involve 37 vehicles from major manufacturers across ten routes, supported by nine new hydrogen refueling stations. This initiative, led by Nitin Gadkari, also supports India's broader goal of producing 5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030 to foster energy independence and sustainable growth.

Key Aspects of the Hydrogen Highway Project:-
Purpose: -
To establish a complete hydrogen ecosystem, including production, distribution, and refueling infrastructure for clean, long-haul mobility.

Scope: -
Large-scale pilot trials will run for two years across strategic national highway corridors.
Investment: -
A budget of Rs 500 crore has been allocated to support the project.
Partnerships: -
Five consortiums, including companies like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, and Reliance, are participating.
Infrastructure: -
Nine hydrogen refueling stations will be established to support the trials.

Broader Goals:
Energy Self-Reliance:-
The project aims to significantly reduce India's reliance on crude oil imports, which currently cost the nation billions annually.
Green Hydrogen Leadership: -
India aspires to become a global leader in green hydrogen production, with a target of 5 million tons per year by 2030.
Economic Impact: -
The initiative is expected to create numerous jobs and attract substantial investment, fostering economic growth.
Environmental Benefits: -
By promoting green hydrogen, India seeks to reduce fossil fuel consumption and cut carbon emissions, contributing to global climate change efforts.
