Key Developments in Saudi Green Hydrogen:-
NEOM Green Hydrogen Project:-
A joint venture (NEOM, ACWA Power, Air Products) that will produce 600 tonnes daily of carbon-free hydrogen (converted to 1.2M tonnes of green ammonia/year). Construction was over 90% complete in early 2026.
Export Strategy: -
The hydrogen is converted to ammonia to utilize existing global shipping infrastructure for international markets.
Target Markets: -
Key partnerships have been established with Germany to secure a green ammonia export corridor from the Yanbu hub, say Indian Chemical News. Japan and South Korea are also considered key, say Arab News.
Why It Matters: -
This project fits within Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify the economy and meet global demand for clean energy, notes gccbusinesswatch.com.
Second Project: -
A second green hydrogen project, led by ACWA Power, is currently being developed for operation by 2030.
