Based on the latest analysis for 2025, global fossil fuel power generation experienced a historic decline, driven primarily by a rapid surge in solar and wind capacity in China and India, allowing renewable energy to surpass coal in the global generation mix for the first time. 

Key Findings for 2025:
Historic Dual Decline: -
For the first time this century, fossil fuel power generation dropped in both China and India in the same year.
Renewables Overtake Coal: -
Clean energy sources (specifically solar) grew fast enough to meet all new demands, causing renewable energy's share of the global generation to surpass that of coal.
Solar Expansion:-
 Global solar generation surged significantly, with China accounting for over half of the new solar capacity and generation additions.
Fossil Fuel Plateau:-
 With clean power generation (rising by ≈ 887 TWh) outpacing demand growth (≈849 TWh), fossil fuel-based generation declined by 0.2%, marking the fifth time this century without growth in fossil electricity. 
This trend signals a structural shift towards a cleaner power system, where clean energy generation capacity in major Asian economies has finally outpaced demand growth, reversing the long-term trend of rising coal reliance. 
Analysis:-
 Coal power drops in China and India for first time in 52 years 
    While many challenges remain, the decline in their coal-power output marks a historic moment, which could help lead to a peak in global emissions.
