China's Green Hydrogen Initiatives

As of 2026, China leads with over 250,000 tons of renewable-based hydrogen capacity, aiming for 2.6 million tons by 2031.
Key Projects: -
The $2 billion Chifeng project in Inner Mongolia is the world's largest, producing green ammonia for export.
Dominance: -
China focuses on low-cost, domestically manufactured alkaline electrolysers to dominate the supply chain. 
Both nations are focusing on creating industrial demand for steel, fertilizer, and transport to drive down costs, often achieving production costs around.
