India is currently grappling with unprecedented, deadly heatwaves that are exceeding historical norms, with temperatures soaring past 47°C in several northern, central, and western states.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued extensive heatwave alerts as millions face severe water shortages, power grid strains, and significant heat stress.
Heatwave Severity & Climate Impact
The current summer has seen dangerously early and prolonged heat extremes, with cities across states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh reporting the most severe spikes.
Record Highs:-
Numerous regions are recording daytime temperatures consistently above 45°C, making daily outdoor activities and manual labor hazardous.
Day-Night Compound Effects:-  Heatwaves are no longer isolated to daytime spikes; "hot days and cool nights" are being replaced by dangerously warm nights that prevent the human body from recovering overnight.
Human Survivability: -
Climate organizations like the World Bank have warned that regions in India are highly vulnerable to crossing the wet-bulb survivability threshold if adequate cooling infrastructure and adaptation measures are not scaled rapidly.
Stay Hydrated: -
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), and lemon water, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Avoid Peak Sun: -
Limit outdoor exposure, particularly between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM when solar radiation and temperatures peak.
Wear Protective Clothing: -
Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting cotton garments.
Real-Time Updates and Resources
Because heat conditions and local IMD alerts change frequently, it is critical to stay updated on your specific region's warning status.
Monitor daily advisories and check weather severity via the official India Meteorological Department (IMD) portal.

State-wise carbon emissions in India show a concentration in western and southern states, with byd as major emitters, particularly from the manufacturing and energy sectors. The highest total CO2 emissions have been linked to states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, though the specific ranking can vary depending on the data year and the specific pollutants included.
