Asian leaders and international institutions are aggressively pushing to connect the continent's fragmented electricity systems into unified, cross-border networks. The initiative aims to stabilize grid reliability, accelerate the clean energy transition, and drive economic growth. 

Major cross-border connectivity plans are advancing across the continent: 

Pan-Asia Power Grid Initiative (PAGI): -
Backed by the Asian Development Bank(ADB), 
this $50 billion strategy aims to integrate 20 gigawatts of renewable energy across borders, build 22,000 kilometers of transmission lines, and improve power access for 200 million people by 2035.
ASEAN Power Grid (APG): -
Southeast Asian leaders are pushing to integrate electricity networks across 10 member states to trade power and lower emissions. The ADB has pledged up to $10 billion over the next decade to scale up cross-border transmission and national grid projects in the region.
Regional Collaboration: -
The goal is to shift from isolated national systems to a Pan-Asian framework where countries can seamlessly buy and sell surplus renewable energy, making regional power networks more resilient.
