The primary global threats in 2026 are dominated by AI-enabled cybercrime, escalating nation-state cyber operations, systemic economic/geopolitical shocks, and unabated climate change. These threats increasingly intersect, multiplying their potential damage.

  AI-Accelerated Cyberattacks:-
The threat landscape has been fundamentally altered by artificial intelligence, which acts as a dual threat:- a force multiplier for attackers and an entirely new attack surface.

Ransomware Surge: -
AI-enabled cybercrime has fueled a massive 389% increase in ransomware victimsyear-overyear.
Faster Breakout Times:
Attackers are moving incredibly fast. The average e-crime "breakout time" (the time it takes for an attacker to pivot from an initially compromised device to other systems) dropped to just 29 minutes, with the fastest recorded attack occurring in 27 seconds.
Malicious Prompts:-
Threat actors are directly exploiting legitimate Generative AI tools and development platforms by injecting malicious prompts to steal credentials and data.
 Nation-State Campaigns and Espionage:-
State-sponsored hacking groups have increased their activity, heavily targeting critical infrastructure and exploiting unmanaged edge devices.
Cloud Intrusions: -
There has been a 266% increase in cloud-conscious intrusions by state-nexus adversaries, frequently targeting valid accounts to bypass security perimeters.
 Vulnerabilities:-
State-sponsored groups, particularly those with China and DPRK nexuses, are increasingly weaponizing "zero-day" vulnerabilities to gain initial access before patches are even available.
Geopolitical and Macroeconomic Risks:-
The World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report emphasizes that decision-makers are stretched between balancing current economic crises and long-term security priorities.
Global Cybersecurity Outlook:
Rising geopolitical fragmentation and widening cyber inequity between nations are causing serious sovereignty challenges and vulnerability gaps.
Critical Infrastructure: -
Supply chain disruptions and vulnerabilities in legacy physical and IT infrastructure remain top concerns for global business and government leaders.
 Climate and Environmental Threats
Long-term, climate change continues to pose one of the most unprecedented, systemic global threats.
Resource Security: -
Shifting weather patterns threaten global food production, while rising sea levels increase the risks of catastrophic flooding and population displacement.
Welcome to the United Nations.

State-wise carbon emissions in India show a concentration in western and southern states, with byd as major emitters, particularly from the manufacturing and energy sectors. The highest total CO2 emissions have been linked to states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, though the specific ranking can vary depending on the data year and the specific pollutants included.
