The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) hosted a National Workshop in New Delhi to launch operational guidelines for the Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme (FY 2026-27 to FY 2030-31). The scheme has a financial outlay of ₹2,584.60 crore to install approximately 1,500 MW of new SHP capacity nationwide.

   The scheme has a financial outlay of ₹2,584.60 crore to install approximately 1,500 MW of new SHP capacity nationwide. 
The recent national workshop highlighted several key objectives and features:
Key Objective: -
Unlock untapped SHP potential, heavily focusing on hilly terrains and North Eastern states that require region-specific clean energy solutions. 
Guidelines Launch: -
MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi officially released the operational guidelines and encouraged state governments to prioritize SHP project deployment. 
Implementation: -
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will act as the National Programme Implementing Agency (NPIA). 
Online Portal:-
 All project approvals, DPR tracking, and milestone monitoring will be conducted through a centralized online portal.
