The European Union is rapidly accelerating its transition to clean homegrown energy, with wind and solar generating more electricity than all fossil fuels combined for the first time. 
Key Progress and Milestones
Record Clean Generation: -
Over 70% of the EU's electricity came from clean sources, and wind and solar surpassed fossil fuels in total power generation. 
Fossil Fuels Drop: -
Fossil-fuel electricity generation in the EU dropped to its lowest level in 40 years, with coal use falling significantly over the past decade.
Financial and Environmental Savings:- This clean energy growth has saved billions in fossil-fuel imports and substantially reduced carbon emissions across member states. 
Enhanced Security: -
Accelerating renewables via frameworks like REPower EU Measures has helped the bloc cushion the impact of recent global energy crises and lower reliance on foreign gas. 
Remaining Challenges
Economy-Wide Transition: -
Producing clean electricity is only part of the goal; the EU still needs to faster phase out fuel-burning machines in transport, heating, and manufacturing. 
Import Dependencies: -
While Russian pipeline gas has plummeted, reliance on alternative imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) remains a vulnerability.
