India has approved exporting up to 654 MW of electricity to Nepal daily from September 13 to December 31, 2026, to help recover from severe hydropower damage caused by recent flash floods, according to the Times of India.
Key Details of the Power Export
Duration & Schedule: -
Power will be supplied for 18 hours daily (midnight to 6:00 PM / 0000 to 1800 hours). 
Transmission Routes:-
Up to 600 MW via the Muzaffarpur- Dhalkebar 400 kV DC line.
Up to 54 MW via the                 
Tanakpur- Mahendranagar 132 kV SC line. 
Recipient: 
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). 
Review: The export quantum for January 2027 onward will be reviewed in December 2026. 
Background
Flood Impact: 
Flash floods in late August 2026 across river basins like Trishuli/Lhende Khola heavily damaged Nepal's local generation infrastructure, reducing capacity by roughly 550 MW. [
Early Activation: -
Kathmandu requested India to advance this winter-season support mechanism early to stabilize the grid during the crisis.
