Extracting water from the air uses Atmospheric Water Generators or passive materials to turn invisible humidity into clean, drinkable water.
Extracting water from the air uses Atmospheric Water Generators or passive materials to turn invisible humidity into clean, drinkable water.
How It Works
Condensation (Refrigeration):-
The machine pulls in ambient air through a dust filter and cools it below its dew point using a refrigeration coil—the same way water beads on a cold glass.
Passive Materials: -
Newer technologies use hydrogels or metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) loaded with salts to absorb water vapor at night and release it as liquid water when warmed by the sun, requiring little to no electricity.
Purification: -
Collected water passes through multi-stage filters (such as carbon and ultrafiltration) and UV sterilization to kill bacteria and remove impurities.
Popular Systems & Technologies
Commercial & Home Units:-
Companies like Airowater and Watergen produce active electrical AWG systems designed for homes, offices, and large-scale industrial use.
Off-Grid / Low-Power Innovations:- Research from institutions like MIT and researchers working with MOF materials focus on zero-power or solar-powered atmospheric harvesting for dry or remote regions.
