Chandigarh creates a historic milestone, (CPDL) illuminated City Beautiful with clean and this Diwali. During the festive period, CPDL met 97% of Chandigarh's household electricity demand through non-fossil fuel sources, including nearly 90% from green .
   For the first time in the city's history, around 2.5 lakh consumers were powered mainly by renewable sources such as hydro, solar, and wind energy, with a small contribution from nuclear energy sources. This achievement marks a significant step towards sustainable development and environmental stewardship, reaffirming CPDL's commitment to a cleaner and greener future.
On Oct 20, between 8am and 2pm, CPDL successfully met almost the entire electricity requirement of its consumers through renewable energy, making this Diwali not only bright but also environmentally responsible.
Speaking on the occasion, Arun Kumar Verma, director, CPDL, said, "This Diwali was truly special for Chandigarh. Powering the city with green energy reflects our collective responsibility towards sustainability. We are proud to lead the way in making Chandigarh a model city for transition."
"CPDL continues to strengthen its renewable energy portfolio and aims to further increase the share of green energy in Chandigarh's power supply in the coming years," added Verma.
